David Kirk

Co-Founder, Partner

David is the former Chief
 Executive of ASX-listed Fairfax
Media Ltd., where he led the 
successful investment into a
 number of internet businesses
 including Fairfax’s acquisition of
 Trade Me and Stayz. David has been a growth stage investor in technology-based businesses since 1999. He is Chairman of ASX-listed Trade Me Group Limited and Kathmandu Holdings Limited, Chairman of Forsyth Barr Limited, a privately-owned New Zealand investment firm, and a Director of each of DocsCorp, SMI, Viostream and Rezdy.

Prior to entering the corporate world, David enjoyed a highly successful rugby career, captaining the All Blacks to win the World Cup in 1987. He was awarded an MBE in 1988.

David is a Rhodes Scholar with degrees in Medicine from Otago University, and Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University. 

Paul Wilson

Co-Founder, Partner

Paul has had extensive private equity investment experience as a Director of CHAMP Private Equity in Sydney and New York, with MetLife in London, and as Executive Director at media focused investment group, Illyria Pty Ltd. Paul is a Director of SiteMinder, Straker Translations, Stackla, Yellow Pages (NZ), the Rajasthan Royals IPL cricket franchise, and ASX listed Vita Group Limited. 

Paul has a B. Bus, Banking and Finance from QUT and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia, a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Andrea Kowalski

Partner

Andrea was made Partner at Bailador in 2018 and is based in New York City where she provides invaluable corporate development, fundraising and operational support for the Bailador portfolio and works closely with management teams in the US and Europe.

Andrea has more than 12 years’ experience in Venture Capital and Investment Banking, working with HBOS in Australia and UBS in London. Prior to joining Bailador, Andrea was Principal at BOOST&Co, a €200m+ pan-European VC fund headquartered in London, and led the Berlin office.

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, an MBA from INSEAD (D’09), and is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Andrea is a Director of Bailador companies Instaclustr, Stackla and SMI, and an Observer on the boards of Rezdy and Brosa.

James Johnstone

Investment Director

James provides operational expertise for Bailador portfolio companies, drawing on his experience scaling a fast growth technology company. He was a founding Director and CFO of Mozo, an online marketplace and winner of Deloitte Fast 50 and BRW Fast Starter Awards.

James has more than 15 years’ experience in strategy consulting and corporate development, previously working with Virgin Travel and Virgin Financial in Sydney and London.

He holds a Bachelor of Accounting from UTS Sydney, is a qualified Chartered Accountant, and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

James is Director for Bailador companies DocsCorp and Viostream, and works closely with Straker Translations [ASX:STG] and Lendi.

Georgina Turner

Investment Manager

Georgie provides operational support for the Bailador portfolio across a range of initiatives, including business strategy and planning, executive recruitment and scaling into new markets. She works closely with Bailador companies SiteMinder, Viostream, Straker Translations [ASX:STG], SMI, Rezdy and Brosa.

Georgie previously worked in Investment Banking at Lazard where she advised large Australian corporates, and in Enterprise Sales at US SaaS cloud technology company Rackspace during a period of rapid expansion into the Australian market.

Georgie holds a dual Bachelor of Commerce, Economics and Finance from The University of Queensland.

Michael Hayes

Investment Manager

Mike provides extensive operational support for the Bailador portfolio including business performance analysis, strategic planning, corporate development and capital raising support. He works closely with Bailador companies Instaclustr, DocsCorp, Stackla and Lendi.

Mike has more than six years experience evaluating investment opportunities across the media, technology and retail sectors in the US. He began his career in the Corporate Strategy group at The Walt Disney Company, the in-house M&A and strategic consulting team, where he was responsible for evaluating and executing M&A transactions for Disney.

Prior to joining Bailador, Mike was a Buy-Side Equity Analyst at Boulevard Capital Management, a US hedge fund based in Los Angeles.

Mike graduated with Honors (cum laude) from Harvard University, where he received an A.B. in Economics.

Mike is an Observer on the board of Instaclustr.

Helen Plesek

Chief Financial Officer & Company Secretary

Helen has been with Bailador since 2011. She has previously held senior finance roles at Inchcape Motors Australia, Tubemakers of Australia and BRW Fast 100 winner and technology company LX Group. Helen has consulted on best practice finance systems and governance across a range of companies and government bodies.

Helen holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Masters in Politics and Public Policy. She is a Certified Practicing Accountant.

Suzie Scott

Fund Administrator

Suzie has a wide range of experience in Australian business having worked in financial services (Investec Bank), Media and Entertainment (Walt Disney TV, Consolidated Press Holdings and Network Ten) and in the consulting and building sectors.

Suzie holds a MA from the University of Edinburgh. 

Chloe Cozens

Team Assistant

Chloe joined Bailador in 2017 to assist the Investment Team. She previously worked in business support (Curve Securities), and as a journalist (Lymington Times).

She holds a BA in Multi-Media Journalism from Bournemouth University. 

Andrew Bullock

Independent Non-Executive Director

Andrew is Managing Director at private equity firm Adamantem Capital, and was previously a partner at Australian law firm Gilbert + Tobin in the Corporate Advisory Group. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, fundraisings and strategic joint ventures and media sectors. He was previously a partner of Minter Ellison and spent 3 years in the London office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Arts from Sydney University and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales.

Jolanta Masojada

Independent Non-Executive Director

Jolanta Masojada is Principal of MasMedia Advisers, providing strategic investor relations and communications advice to listed companies. She has more than 25 years’ experience in financial markets and equity research in the media and technology sectors in Australia and the US.  Jolanta was formerly Director Equity Research at Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank, with previous roles at Macquarie Bank and Pierson Sal. Oppenheim in New York.

Jolanta is a graduate of the University of Natal and Cambridge University. She is a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Sankar Narayan

Independent Non-Executive Director

Sankar is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Xero. He was previously CFO of Virgin Australia Holdings Limited, Fairfax Media and Foxtel.

Sankar has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is an FCPA (Australia). He also holds a masters degree in electrical engineering from the State University of New York.
