David Kirk

Co-Founder, Partner

David is the former Chief
 Executive of ASX-listed Fairfax
Media Ltd., where he led the 
successful investment into a
 number of internet businesses
 including Fairfax’s acquisition of
 Trade Me and Stayz. David has been a growth stage investor in technology-based businesses since 1999. He is Chairman of ASX-listed Trade Me Group Limited and Kathmandu Holdings Limited, a Director of Forsyth Barr Limited, a privately-owned New Zealand investment firm, and a Director of each of SiteMinder, SMI and Viocorp.

Prior to entering the corporate world, David enjoyed a highly successful rugby career, captaining the All Blacks to win the World Cup in 1987. He was awarded an MBE in 1988.

David is a Rhodes Scholar with degrees in Medicine from Otago University, and Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University. 

Paul Wilson

Co-Founder, Partner

Paul has had extensive private equity investment experience as a Director of CHAMP Private Equity in Sydney and New York, with MetLife in London, and as Executive Director at media focused investment group, Illyria Pty Ltd. Paul is Chairman of SiteMinder and iPRO and a Director of Viocorp International, Stackla, Yellow Pages (New Zealand), the Rajasthan Royals IPL cricket franchise, and ASX listed Vita Group Limited. 

Paul has a B. Bus, Banking and Finance from QUT and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australia, a Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Andrea Kowalski

Investment Director

Andrea has 11 years of private equity and investment banking experience, working with HBOS in Australia and UBS in London. Prior to joining Bailador, Andrea was a Principal at BOOST&Co, a €200M pan-European venture capital fund, headquartered in London, focused on providing expansion capital to high-growth, innovative, businesses within the technology sector.  During the last two years of her time with BOOST&Co she led their German business, based in Berlin.

Andrea is a Director on the boards of Stackla and Instaclustr, and an Observer on the board of Lendi. 

Andrea holds a Bachelor of Commerce from McGill University, an MBA from INSEAD (D'09) and is a member of the AICD.

James Johnstone

Investment Director

James has 14 years experience in strategy consulting, corporate development and building an online marketplace business, working within Virgin Group companies. Prior to joining Bailador, James was a founding Director of Mozo, an online marketplace business, and instrumental in the establishment and growth of Mozo to a team of 25 that has won multiple Deloitte Fast 50 and BRW Fast Starter Awards.

James is a Director on the board of DocsCorp, Straker Translations and Standard Media Index. 

James holds a Bachelor of Accounting from UTS Sydney, is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a member of the AICD.

Michael Hayes

Investment Manager

Michael has 6 years of experience evaluating investment opportunities across the media, tech and retail sectors in the U.S.
 
He began his career in the Corporate Strategy group at The Walt Disney Company, Disney’s in-house M&A and strategy consulting team, and was responsible for evaluating and executing M&A transactions for Disney globally.
 
Prior to joining Bailador, Michael was a Buy-Side Equity Analyst at Boulevard Capital Management, an equity hedge fund in Los Angeles.
 
Michael holds a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University.

Georgina Brown

Investment Manager

Georgie has 6 years combined experience in investment banking and enterprise (SaaS) sales. Most recently, Georgie was an Enterprise Sales Executive with Rackspace, responsible for new customer acquisition and existing account growth.
 
Georgie began her career as an investment banking analyst with Lazard, working directly with ASX 200 organisations.
 
Georgie holds a dual bachelor in Commerce, and Economics & Finance from The University of Queensland. 

Helen Plesek

Financial Controller & Company Secretary

Helen has been with Bailador since 2011 as Financial Controller. She has previously held senior finance roles at Inchcape Motors Australia, Tubemakers of Australia and LX Group.

Helen holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Masters in Politics and Public Policy. She is a Certified Practicing Accountant.

Andrew Bullock

Independent Non-Executive Director

Andrew is a partner at Australian law firm, Gilbert + Tobin in the Corporate Advisory Group. He specialises in mergers and acquisitions, fundraisings and strategic joint ventures and media sectors. He was previously a partner of Minter Ellison and spent 3 years in the London office of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Andrew has a Bachelor of Arts from Sydney University and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales.

Heith Mackay-Cruise

Independent Non-Executive Director

Heith is the independent non-executive Chair of hipages Group, the non-executive Chair of Literacy Planet and the non-executive Chair of the Vision Australia Foundation. He is non-executive director of the ASX listed LifeHealthcare Group and non-executive director of Academic Colleges Group in New Zealand. Heith is also a member of the Adara Partners Advisory Board.

In Heith’s prior executive career, he was the founding CEO of Sterling Early Education, the Global CEO of Study Group and CEO for PBL Media New Zealand. Heith also held senior executive positions with Australian Consolidated Press and worked in sales and marketing roles for PepsiCo around Australia.

Heith has a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of New England and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He lives in Sydney with his wife and three children.

Suzie Scott

Fund Administrator

Suzie has a wide range of experience in Australian business having worked in financial services (Investec Bank), Media and Entertainment (Walt Disney TV, Consolidated Press Holdings and Network Ten) and in the consulting and building sectors.

Suzie holds a MA from the University of Edinburgh. 

Sankar Narayan

Independent Non-Executive Director

Sankar is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Xero. He was previously CFO of Virgin Australia Holdings Limited, Fairfax Media and Foxtel.

Sankar has an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and is an FCPA (Australia). He also holds a masters degree in electrical engineering from the State University of New York.
